From the East mountain range, the Baekdudaegan, Chiaksan National park branches toward Southwestern direction is located in Wonju-si, Huengseong-gun and Youngwol-gun centering around the highest peak, birobong peak(1,288m). Birobong peak, Maehwasan, Hyangrobong peak, Namdaebong peak are all over an altitude of 1,000m connects Chiaksan and is screening Wonju like background which is also called "Famous mountain in Eastern range". Also it is called "Jeokaksan" as it has beautiful autumn foliage, but its name changed to Chiaksan with "chi" meaning pheasant after the legend of pheasant which repaid kindness in Sangwonsa temple. Wonju is the center of Gangwon-do transporation, and is close to capital area, so many climbers come to climb mountain for one day, and during the autumn season, many visit to see beautiful scenary.
Gangwon Gamyoung is the center of local administration of Gangwon-do which controlled 26 bu, mok, gun, hyeon of Gangwon-do. It was installed in 4th year of Joseon King Taejo(1395) and conducted administrative task of Gangwon-do for 500 hears until the Gamyoung was abolished in accordance with abolition of 8 do and implementation of 23 bu in 32nd year of King Gojong(1895).

Sogeumsan Mountain Suspension Bridge, Wonju’s premier tourist point, boasts the country’s longest and highest scale among mountain pedestrian bridges at a length of 200 meters, height of 100 meters, and width of 1.5 meters. Visitors can appreciate the Seomgang River’s superb scenery from the skywalk observatory on top of Sogeumsan Mountain where the Suspension Bridge can be found.
Wonju rail bikes come and go the 6.8km section between two train stations that no longer have train service(Ganhyeon station and Pandae station). The course is in downhill, so people are able to enjoy rain bike while viewing slowly flowing river. There's love confession tunnel for loves and shouting tunnel to get rid of stress and other 6 tunnels to experience various events.

Every year, Pak Kyongni literature festival is hosted to award Pak Kyongni prize along with national youth writing competition, and support writers with creation studio. It contributes to succeed literary spirit of late Pak Kyongni, and to train the juniors to dream and follow the trail. Also, it is the place of passionate discussion not only about the literature, but also politics and economy and other issues of life.
